Who Are We?

Nicaragua-Direct was founded by Jens C. Nielsen, Professor Emeritus, in 1996 after spending some time in Nicaragua.  With the support and assistance from his family, this project has become a focal point in retirement.

Jens retired from Triton College, River Grove, IL in 2004 after 32 years of service.  He co-started the HIA-Hospitality Industry Administration Program in 1972 after having served the Tourism and Hospitality trade in several countries since 1956.  Jens still teaches a class or two each semester in addition to the humanitarian work in Nicaragua.  He and his wife, Jette and daughters Christine and Marie Louise are residing in Itasca since 1978.

We look at Nicaragua-Direct as being a privilege for us to assist in this meaningful way.  We are the facilitators who with the support of other caring individuals and some organizations are able to assist people much less fortunate than ourselves.  This work will continue as long as we have our health and resources to carry on.

It is our hope that you will join us in this undertaking, so that we may continue with the humanitarian effort in Nicaragua.  Thank you.

"Together, we do make a difference in peoples lives."
